Dirty Power can be SHOCKING! |
|

Power protection is like life insurance: You
don't want to think about why you need it, but you will need it sooner or later. Life
insurance for your computer equipment can be as simple as a surge suppressor to intercept
deadly electrical spikes, or as complex as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to keep
the power flowing even through a blackout.A UPS can be a lot more than a safety net,
however. Better UPS's constantly monitor and regulate the quality of the power coming from
the wall outlet (called line conditioning or power conditioning), so your equipment always
receives the clean 120-volt or 220-volt power it was designed for. And with the advanced
software available with higher-end units, network administrators can check the status of
the UPS from a network node or even via the Web and be alerted via e-mail or phone page if
there's a problem with the power in the server room.
If utility
power doesn't come back before the UPS battery is
depleted, the software can initiate a graceful shutdown
of the system, warning each user of the impending
failure and even saving user files. There also are
environmental monitors that can keep tabs on the
temperature of the room or let you know if there's
a flood or other catastrophe endangering your equipment. |

ENHANCEMENT EQUIPMENT-
PRODUCTS & SERVICES AVAILABLE FROM
SCOMPTEC Uninterruptible
Power Supply (UPS Systems)
We carry a complete line of UPS systems for all size
computers, network components, POS terminals, testing labs, numerically-controlled
machinery, medical imaging equipment, as well as graphic arts computers. These units run
in size from small (single computer) to large enough to power a whole computer room.
Many of these units have expandable battery packs to allow for increased run-time should
an extended power outage occur.
True on-line and stand-by units are available.
These units are designed to keep your systems
operational during outages and varying voltage conditions. These units also provide surge
protection, transient suppression and voltage regulation.
Individual UPS units at each computer load can eliminate the need to re-wire your
facility.
Voltage
Regulators
Voltage Regulators incorporate a computer grade
isolation transformer with tap switching voltage regulation. Regulation range is typically
plus 10% minus 27% on the input of the unit maintaining a plus, minus 3% on the output.
Regulators are good where power outages are not a problem but brown-outs (low voltage) are
common.
Isolation
Transformers
These units are designed to provide computer grade
power isolation to sensitive electronic loads. They typically provide 120db isolation from
spikes and noise. Because they are a separately derived source of power neutral to ground
noise is minimal. Isolation transformers are ideal for computer room distribution.
Surge
Suppression
Surge suppression protects your sensitive electronic
loads from spikes and noise by coupling the excess power to the ground where it will do
the least damage to your equipment. This equipment comes in a wide variety of models to
protect everything from a single computer to the whole building. A form of Surge protection
is the building entry, lightning protection, capable of protecting the building power from
a lightning strike.
